Vegas Vacation – Part 2

Vegas Vacation – Part 2

Golfing with Team Moshman   When we last left our intrepid hero, he was getting ready for an o’dark thirty tee time with a few Team Moshman people.   Wednesday was the long day.  Started at 5:30am so we could make it to Angel Park Golf course with enough time to hit a few balls on the range and be ready for our 6:50am tee time.  Now in the weeks leading up to the trip I spent hours on Skype with HotJenny314 talking about golf and how excited she was.  I later found out why.  She had NEVER played a full round before.   This was going to be fun.   Knocking the ball around at Angel Park   So the two of us, along with Simon and Louis headed over and teed off just before 7am.  As we were leaving the first tee, the group behind us had a player smoking a cigar.  Being the huge fan of smokey treats that I am, I ask what he was partaking.  Turns out it was a cigar from a local shop (the Las Vegas Cigar Company) and the owner was playing in the foursome.  He graciously offered me a cigar, which I light and smoked while playing the front 9.  It was an excellent cigar, and with the shop being located near the airport, I know where my first stop will be next time I’m in town.       Before I got out there Katie and I had talked and figured that a good plan would be for her to get an inexpensive starter set of clubs.  The thinking was that with club rental at one of the local courses it would only take a couple of rounds to “make up” the cost.  Even if it turns out that she didn’t like the game and playing she’d easily be able to sell them and not be out much.  The key thing was that she wanted them to be pink.  We did a little research and found her a pretty decent set for a reasonable price…and it was pink.     The biggest thing for me when playing is to make sure I’m having fun and enjoying the group I’m playing with.  I couldn’t have asked for a better three people to play with.  I do think Katie was a bit surprised when the cart lady came by and we got two Newcastles at 8:30am.  A good beer, a good cigar, good friends and great scenery…everything I love about golf.     The nice thing, as bad as we are at the game (I tend to score in the 120’s when I’m not counting all my...

Vegas Vacation – Part 1

Vegas Vacation – Part 1

I don’t know if there are words in the English language that will help me fully articulate just how much fun this week here in Vegas has been, but I shall try anyway.   After arriving on Sunday and spending way too much time in lines to get my rental car, I was finally able to make the trek to where I was staying. Since it wasn’t too far from the Collin and Katie‘s we ended up going to lunch and then Katie and I went shopping. Now, normally shopping is not something I’m a fan of (if it can’t be bought off Amazon I usually can’t be bothered) but this was shopping with a purpose. Katie had recently decided that she wanted to learn to golf and this trip was all about getting the “little” things that you don’t realize that you need: shoes, balls, tees, glove, etc. We managed to find a pair of shoes that Katie was happy with, fit well and were pink (to match her clubs, glove, top and balls).     Since she hadn’t taken her clubs out for a spin since buying them, we loaded up the car and the three of us hit the driving range not too far from their place.       Monday was pretty much a take it easy day, not that the whole trip hasn’t been that way, and culminated with dinner at Prime at the Bellagio. Our seats were next to a window that overlooked the fountains and it certainly seemed like every time we looked out they were in the middle of a show which made for a nice in-meal entertainment. The food was excellent and if you’re ever there and have the opportunity to experience it, I highly recommend it. Afterward we hooked up with TM members Louis “Borgata123” Martin and Joey “Powerbottom” Abenstein at a hookah bar not far from the Strip. The atmosphere was pleasant but the actual selection wasn’t great. The service also left something to be desired. The highlight of this portion was Katie calling the hookah attendant “Dr. Hookah” which Louis later morphed into an Animaniacs reference by calling him “Dr. Scratchnsniff”.     We eventually made it over to the Venitian, where Collin, Louis and Simon took a crack at the HU limit machines. Joey and Katie ended up sitting in a 1-2 shorthanded game that Joey quickly made a 1-2-4 game with a UTG straddle. As our time at the V was winding down there was one hand that we’re still talking/joking about. It was 6 handed at this point, with Louis having joined the game, and our TM heroes were...

Good Luck Katie and I’m Headed to Vegas

Good Luck Katie and I’m Headed to Vegas

cross posted at teammoshman.com   ******   My friend Katie is playing in the WSOP No Limit Shootout today.   For those not familiar with it, the shootout consists of dividing everyone into tables of 9 or 10 (not sure which) playing down till there is one winner.  Then those winners combine into tables and play down to one winner.  It’s kinda like The Highlander in that they keep repeating the process till there is only one.   It started at 12pm pacific time.   I sent her a text message at 12:23pm, “Have you won yet?”   29 minutes later she replied back, “haha I have a leggy image”   I’m assuming it’s cause she showed up Cake Style, but I have no idea what that had to do with the bluff she “had to show down” on the 2nd hand.   Anyway, good luck Katie.   *****   I finally got everything set up over at Merge to start playing again and have donked around in a few of the super turbos.  They play much faster than the supers at Full Tilt did, with a HUGE jump between levels 1 and 2 versus the more gradual jump at FT.  But with a bigger rakeback % and the ability to get more volume in more quickly, they could be fun.   *****   We’re less than 4 days away from me landing in Vegas for a week of sun, golf, a 51’s baseball game, hanging out with the TM people and, time permitting, poker.  I’m really looking forward to this trip and hope it’s even more fun than the last one.   Catch ya in a week or so.   *****   Any comments can be posted over this blog’s crosspost at the TeamMoshman...
